Every second and fourth Saturday I head downtown to hang out with and feed the homeless community. It’s a week that stretches me beyond measure. See when you are going to feed the “community,” you really aren’t sure how many are going to show up.
God and I do a lot of talking that week in preparation.
In preparation of Taking it to the Streets, I do a lot of communicating with God.
Me – crying out for help while trying to lay down the stress. God – assuring me that He has this! I’m sure He gets a kick out of my silly prayers.
Seriously, can you imagine planning a party for 400 people every other week? Can you imagine planning the party not really sure who was going to show or how you were going to feed them all? It’s crazy and makes no sense.
I’ve realized through the process of trusting God, that I’m a control freak. Planning this way goes against my core that wants “everything perfect.” But one thing I’ve realized as I’ve struggled to lay down that stress of fretting and leaving it up to God is that He always comes through in magnificent ways.
When He calls you; He will provide.
God provides in so many ways:
food
clothing
hygiene products
socks
money
people to serve
band to play worship
prayer warriors
He always comes through in magnificent ways. God knows how many will show up. He rally’s His people in response when there are more and resources are found in plenty.
God is asking you to step out in faith. Trust Him. Ask Him to come through. He longs to show you that He is Jehovah-Jireh – the God who provides.
There is always something so special about serving.
When we serve, God pours back in to us more than we can imagine. He gives joy, peace, and blessing back in unexplainable ways. If you are down — get out and serve somebody else. God will refresh your soul in reward.
I’m continually amazed at how I think I’m going to bless the homeless and yet I’m the one who walks away changed.
How about you? Are you a control freak?
Do you struggle with stepping out in faith afraid that God will not come through?
Are you ready to experience something new?

“When we serve, God pours back in to us more than we can imagine.” Oh this is so true my friend! It’s what blew me away most from my time in Guatemala and I’m missing that go out every day and serve. I miss Guatemala! I long for those days and I’m waiting for God to lead me somewhere. Right now he has me spending lots and lots of time with Him. I desperately hope to join you for a take it to the streets night at some point. Love you and your heart!!!!!

Truer words were never said. I am so blessed by service. I learn more
And love more and am encouraged. I try to be God’s
Hands And feet and to show His love through my actions. The orphans I serve show me that and so much more.
