Do you feel like you are just standing still? You can see your dreams, but yet they seem so far away. Your plan of action seems stale, and you wonder if it is all really worth the hassle.
After such an incredible day yesterday where I was the Featured Blogger on the SITS Girls site, I really did feel as if I could conquer the world. But somewhere over the course of 24 hours — 24 HOURS (that’s crazy) –, I awoke with doubt, frustration, and madness rolling around in my head. Oh please tell me you know what this feels like . . .
One minute we are “can do” people, and then the next we are “I’m throwing in the towel people.”
Thankfully, I have great mentors in my life that call me out when the madness begins to mess with my mind. Do you have a mentor in your life that you can share your dreams and struggles with?
If not, GET ONE!
Don’t pick anybody. Ask a successful person who knows the challenges of succeeding, a person you can trust the truth with, and someone who is a “can do” person.
Don’t be afraid to ask. Truth is they just might feel flattered.
Is someone coming to your mind at the moment? I challenge you to take a brave step today and call them. Share your dream, your struggles and kindly ask for their help.

Wow! I soooo needed to hear this – yes I MOST definitely can go from high to low in a matter of seconds (and you thought 24hours was bad ;) ) I am new to Sits and when I saw the featured blogger post I ran (ok I was already sitting) to your website and could not be happier to have found it! I am certainly a new and loyal follower :) happy blogging and as the saying goes “it ain’t easy bein’ positive!”

I am a day late from SITS, but I do like to make an entrance. Love this post and your blog. It is so true that having someone on your side who gives you the push and the support you need to keep you on track is crucial. I thank God for my coach and mentor. Every. Single. Day!
Positively Alene says
Yes, pushes are great. I’m so thankful for my mentors too! So glad you came by — it’s never too late around here!

This is so great. I definitely feel like I’m about to conquer the world one day, and the next day I get lost again. Motivation can be hard to come by.
A mentor is an amazing idea; I need to find myself one.

Hmmmm – have you thought of a mentor? You really need one — I had to call mne today to talk me off the ledge. Now, I’m all better and focused on what I should be.

I’m glad to know that these are feelings everyone has. As far as a mentor, I’ll have to give that one some thought.

I hear ya! It’s like when one good thing happens, the powers that be are wont to give a little shake, shake, shake to make sure I am still paying attention.
Positively Alene says
Well, I think I’ve been shaken to death today! But thanks to my mentor I’m back on track. I totally get the paying attention — sure makes us wake up!

I have to say – I have some phenomenal mentors but they have to do with my recovering publicist days… I think I need a new blogger mentor :)
BTW – Happy Belated SITS day – I need to come by Positive Alene more often :)

How fun to have a blogging mentor! I did 31 Days to Better Blogging with SITS Girls and they talk of that. Finding others that you connect with where you can bounce ideas off each other. Hope you find one soon!

I always love your love!

Ah… it is as if you are answering the questions I have asked only silently. Thank you for your willingness to share and for your obedience to Him…
I agree it is as important to have a mentor… and I believe also to mentor… It’s God’s way :)
Blessings to you, Alene, and congratulations on your guest post :)

Michele – that’s exactly it. We mentored by those who can stretch and grow us and then we in turn should turn around and pour into others. Definitely God’s way. I’m amazed at how much I learn too when I pour into others.

My church actually has a mentoring ministry that I have used in the past, but for the most part, no, I don’t have a mentor and yes, I do know what it feels like to go back and forth between feeling like I’m ready to take on the world and throwing in the towel!
Positively Alene says
Love that! Do y’all use a certain study for mentoring?

Do you remember that Dan Fogleberg song from years ago, “I have those moments so steady and strong, feeling so holy and humble, next thing I know I’m all worried and weak and I feel myself starting to crumble….”? It popped in my head while reading this. Here is another great thing about blogging friends and mentors – I (we) realize our emotions and crazy ups and downs can be pretty common. And then we don’t beat ourselves up so much. And I truly believe we’re all meant to help each other along the path. Nice reminder here. I think other bloggers are often my mentors. We tend to “get” each other. Yes?
Positively Alene says
Yes, I love me some Dan Fogleberg!!! I definitely have great blogging friends and even blogging mentors. Such a nice gift here in bloggy-land. Bloggers “get” each other — love that. So true!

And while we can really be helped by mentors – we often have to get out of our own way too.

Thanks so much for all your kind words on my post the other day. I must admit the weekend was difficult. This post seems to be particularly relevant as the Husband and I are thinking to ourselves: “Now what?”. I often repeat the cycle of anticipation and then fear/anxiety? Maybe I should look into getting a mentor…the big question is who?
