I really hate it when God starts messing me up and opening my eyes to things I’ve never seen before. Oh how I get uneasy. My heart races and doubts begin to flood my mind. But as I lay my questions out before God, He is so kind to bring forth answers from His loving word and love letter to me.
These answers I long for – they come with weight and even fear. I talk about stepping over fear a lot here. It’s what we have to do to move forward . . . just step over it. But there’s this new fear looming inside of me and it is weighing in heavily.
I am slowly picking up my feet to step over these thoughts and hurdles that plaque me, but my feet feel as if they are weighed down by concrete blocks. I feel clumsy. I probably look a fright at times, but I continue to step onward slowly and cautiously.
This has been my life for the past weeks — messed up — stirred up — facing a new thing.
Maybe you grew up like me and you continually heard —
don’t fight
turn the other cheek
don’t get involved with those people
just walk away
In the right circumstance all those wise sayings are pure truth.
But what if . . .
What if we’ve let those sayings infiltrate our Christian life?
What if we’ve let those words keep us from fighting when it mattered?
What if turning away and not getting involved has cost others their lives?
What if?
Just writing these words make my heart race. We’ve turned in to a comfortable society. Nobody wants to stand up. Nobody wants to fight. Everybody just wants to be left alone and to enjoy their own prosperous life.
Where does it say in scripture that we should live our lives as cowards?
Where does it say we should walk away from the injustices of the world?
Where does it say we are to live comfortably and focused on ourselves?
I don’t see it there and yet that’s me! I’ve lived my Christian life as a wimp. Reflecting back — it’s sickening.
Maybe you’ve lived your life kind of wimpy-like too.
It could have been influenced by what you’ve been taught. It could be that you are a naturally fearful person. But no matter what has influenced our cowardliness, it’s cost people their lives.
When we sit idle the Light of Christ is never brought to the dark world. Not only are people not rescued from the dark, but the evil ones never have opportunity to repent and change.
God needs warriors, fighters, and fearless followers.
Are you one of them?
Are you ready to stand up and fight?
Are you ready to make a difference?
Oh my stars, as I ask myself those questions my hands are shaking. My heart is screaming YES YES YES I want to fight and my hand is slowly slipping in to the air as if to say here I am.
Friend, it’s time we wake-up and fight!

Your post makes me uneasy, that means it sounds way too familiar to me. I agree, sometimes we need to pick a fight, but it’s not really about picking a fight, the fight is already there, we just choose to ignore it and let others fight it. I do, anyway!

Guilty of being a Christian wimp. I definitely don’t want that to be my legacy.
Thanks for such a convicting post, Alene!
