It’s been a crazy year already. Is anyone else feeing that? My soul stirs. It thrashes. It feels off kilter. As a matter of fact, I’m still looking for my January 1st fresh start.
With the release of my new book, Remodel Your Life, with audio devotionals coming out this Thursday, I’ve been thinking a lot about teaching. I love teaching and writing. To have God impart a fresh lesson from his holy love Book for me to share is such a sweet spot.
But one day, it all felt wrong.
I’ve spent many years with my life consumed up in a church building. Teaching. Organizing. Loving. Mentoring. All great things God had called me to. But one day my eyes were opened to the fact that I had been teaching and pouring into the same people for years over and over. Not that that is bad, but I didn’t see life change.
It seems if we sit in study after study there should be incredible life change happening. So much so that it would bust forth outwardly for all to see!
I began to feel like I was just showing up to shine my light in an already lit place. We were all Jesus believers. We all had bright lights and there we were just a shinin’ brightly in church.
As we shined brighter, the world grew darker.
I learned a song growing up, “This Little Light of Mine.” There is a line that says, “Hide it under a bushel — No! I’m gonna let it shine.”
And one day I awoke and realized that my light wasn’t being hidden under a bushel, it was being hid in church. A flashlight is not much use in an already lit room. [tweet that]
And it was then that tug began to go and reach a dark world. A messy world that most of us would prefer to ignore or walk right by. And the more my soul stirred to shine my light in the darkest place, the more I freaked. The questions wanted to snuff out my light:
Where will I go?
What will I say?
What is there to teach?
And the truth was none of those questions nor answers mattered, all that mattered was being a beacon of love.
With the release of a new study comes a new challenge.
Remodel Your Life will release Thursday. I’m stoked about what God is already doing through that study. One women laid down her marijuana addiction, another homeless person has found a job and is raising their confidence in self, and another has quit screaming at their children. That’s just the beginning of the pre-launch stories.
No matter where you are in your walk or what side of the street you live on the 30 days are chalked full of God’s truth. A truth that never returns void.
If you are in a place and need a challenge to remodel your life so you can move on, you will find that 30 days with the Master Renovator will spur you on that journey. But I’m challenging those of you who are doing great and loving studies, to take this study to the messy side of the street and teach others. Get out of your church and bring the Light of the Truth of others.
Where is that place for you?
You decide. It could be your neighbors house across the street. It could be the school to a group of students. It could be anywhere. The question is — will you go? Will you shine your light in to the dark of your world?
I will be here to guide you whether you are doing this study by yourself, in your church, or in a place out of your comfort zone. You will have access to me, if you so choose.
Let’s step out together and take back the dark places for God by shining our light into the world that has long been forgotten.
Will you join me?
