I’m not sure what you do when you need a little pick-me-up in your day. If you have a great secret to share, oh please do tell us? I’m always looking for that extra perk around 3pm.
One of my pick-me-ups is to run to McAlister’s and grab their fan.tab.u.lous tea! If you are a tea connoisseur, you will agree hands-down that McAlister’s is the best pick-me-up. Fresh, clean, crisp tea — nothing like it!
As I run out to grab my pick-me-up for the day, a large cup of tea (thank goodness McAlister’s is just a mile away), I find myself having a conversation with none other than myself.
Why isn’t a spiritual pick-me-up this easy? If only, I could run to the corner and pick-up a cool drink of Living Water and immediately feel refreshed. Maybe I’m missing something in my walk. Or better yet, maybe I need to fast?”
It was then I was reminded of fasting. Maybe it was about giving up my earthy fixes so I could be picked-up while seeking God more diligently. Quickly my mind was drawn to scriptures in Isaiah 58:6-9 MSG
What I’m interested in seeing you do is:
sharing your food with the hungry,
inviting the homeless poor into your homes,
putting clothes on the shivering ill-clad,
being available to your own families.
Do this and the lights will turn on,
and your lives will turn around at once.”
Consuming more tea will not pick me up. More encouragement will not turn my attitude right-side-up. No, what will turn my life around is pouring out in to other’s lives.
sharing food
having guests over
clothing those in need
giving to others
Once my eyes are no longer on myself, my life’s attitude will turn around immediately!
Today my pick-me-up will come from pouring out and giving to others. Ah yes, that’s just the pick-me-up I need! Serving, sharing, giving!
What’s your favorite pick-me-up?
How can you pour into others lives today?

Oh. Definitely. those little sweet corners or secret places where we can sneak away and meet HIM — ah now that’s the perfect pick me up! Blessings & thanks for stopping by today.

When I lived in Oklahoma I loved the sweet tea from McAlisters! Then I moved to Kentucky and no such restuarant. But I did find a little place here with just as good tea, the problem is, it’s not just a mile away. It’s clear on the other side of town.
As for a pick me up, I ‘m right there with you. You read about my visit to the bridge. Those visits and helping out how the Lord leads is a huge pick me up! Nothing like taking the focus off of yourself and putting it onto others. :)
Positively Alene says
Kristen – yes, I read about those visits and I want to read more! You are a girl after my own heart. I’m going to shoot you an email to guest here – hope you accept!
On another note – I hate it when your favorite places are across town or even in other cities! :( Makes for great road trips though — :)

Hmmmmmmm….pick me up by pouring out…I heart that! I’m not a Mormon, but I have read through the entire book of Mormon, I’ll write about that someday…anyway when Mormons fast they take what they would’ve spent for food that day, or take the food they would’ve eaten that day, and they put it in their pantry to be shared among the needy in their church. They have gigantic food pantries – and they base the idea on YOUR verse!! I was blessed by this Alene – thank you. And God bless and keep you and each and every one of yours!
Positively Alene says
Craig – glad to see you bloggy neighbor! I’d love to read about what you learned. What you share so far is awesome. We have a huge clothing and food pantry at church too, which is utilized extensively on Sunday’s. But oh. my. goodness. my favorite thing is to take all that to the neighborhoods to them. Now that’s a blessing you can’t miss out on!! Have a great day.

When I need a pick-me-up I look for the blogs I like and see if anyone has written a new one or maybe I missed an old post!
Positively Alene says
Amy – you are too cute! glad you stopped by.

Your post picked me up, Alene! :)
(and I’m drooling here, wishing I could try that tea!)
I’m learning that counting my gifts is the ultimate pick-me-up. Like a warm blanket and the best cup of tea, His love surrounds me and lifts me right up when I take the time to notice all He has done for me.
Blessings and hugs to you!
All for Him,
Nikki

I have a pick-me-up mid-day of a diet coke and 2 cookies as I do my quiet time with the Lord. I look forward to 2:30 for that.
Positively Alene says
2 cookies everyday – not that’s a pick me up!!! Love it girl.

Beautiful Alene! My pick me up, I just remember that God loves me, no matter what and my sweet daughter Nikki. Blessings!

Those pick-me-ups are great….and addicting. Heard on the radio KLOVE about people giving up their pick-me-ups for Lent. And then donating the money to an organization that provides clean water in villages that need it……There ‘s a way to pour into others.
Positively Alene says
I love that!!
