It’s Bubberz first day of college and he won’t let his mom take pictures of him at the campus. HOW RUDE??!! I have pictures of his first day of school from the past thirteen years, but this year is different.
It’s different all right!
As I was visiting with him the other evening I asked how the roommate situation was working out. He said the four of them had sat down together and worked out some ground rules they could all follow.
The other three were concerned with locked doors, trash being taken out, dishes being cleaned, etc. When it was Bubberz time to speak he said he politely said, “I don’t care if you smoke or drink. But if you’d not smoke in the apartment or throw parties here I’d really appreciate it.”
It was the cutest thing. He said, “Mom, they are actually respecting my requests. I can’t believe it.”
Now this is the line that left me speechless and crying Hallelujah’s out to God –
“Mom, Joe (changed name) came over the other night when everyone was gone. We prayed over that apartment. We prayed over their rooms. I want God to work through me.”
I still get a lump in my throat when I think of it. I certainly didn’t think that way when I was 18. Did you? Seriously!
I think back on all the days and nights I’ve prayed over Bubberz room and over him as he slept. Actually, I still go into his room and pray for him. But now . . . Now, this kid is praying over others rooms!
Do you have a great story from your child’s first day of school or college? This sappy sentimental mom would love to hear it!
I stand amazed at God’s incredible love and promises!
Still shoutin’, HALLELUJAH!

Elane,
Thank you for commenting on my blog. It’s so wonderful to meet you. Wasn’t San Antonio and the Siesta Fiesta wonderful?!!
I had such great time with my daughter and really enjoyed meeting so many blogging friends. I wish I could have met you. I can’t wait to check out more of your blog. I’m going to add you to my favorites and definitely be coming back.
This is a great story about your son. I’ve prayed so much for my children through the years. I, like you, still go into their rooms and pray when I feel the need. I used to be a part of Mom’s In Touch when my kids were in college. We all had college age children and we spent one hour a week offering praises and praying for the needs of our kids. I saw so many answered prayers during that time.
I’d better get ready for work. I could stay on here all day! ;)
Talk to you again soon!
Love,
Valerie

That is awesome, Alene! Even just the fact that they sat down to go over ground rules! Awesome. That is so cool that your son and his buddy are praying for their floormates.
I don’t have any remarkable stories from my first day of college, my kids just started 1st and 3rd grade on Monday. Everything went great except we missed the school bus that first morning heehee!

Alene,
thank you for sharing this story with us, I pray each and everyday for each one of my kids and Grandkids, they are 1700 miles away, but the Lord gives me a way to lift them up to him, and that give me peace to know that they are in Gods hands…
I loved seeing all the pictures of your weekend, I pray that someday we will meet and if not here I will see you in Heaven…
You are in my prayers…

Alene:
Recently, we sent our son back for his second year of college. I posted about it recently on my blog entitled “Raising Faith: Embracing Your Release.” I wrote it for the many parents who are releasing their children to college this year, knowing the extraordinary bittersweet emotions I went through last year. You might enjoy reading it. Just scroll down until you find it.
I know you’re heart was blessed with your son’s response. He is growing in Godliness and becoming the man you’ve been praying about for the past 18 years! God be close to you both as you navigate this changing season.

Thanks for commenting my blog, and reading! It’s good to know someone I don’t know appreciates all my randomness. Your son sounds like an awesome guy. I hope I can be like that when I get to college, and God can work through me!
