My daughter and I enjoy watching “What Not to Wear” together. She commented the other evening, “Mom, we should start dressing reee-ally bad. Then maybe we could be on that show.”
I’m beginning to think she is on to something. Oh my, I do need help!
I understand wearing your right colors helps you look healthier, thinner (woo hoo) and bright-eyed.
I understand that horizontal stripes make you look thicker, where vertical stripes are more slimming.
I understand you want to wear clothes that are comfortable and fit so you aren’t always adjusting and picking at them.
There is a lot I get, but what I don’t get is – what in the world do you wear when you are to be videoed or on TV? I’ve read some articles recently and it seems camera’s have their own set of rules. You would know. Urgh! This is most unnerving.
This coming Thursday, a friend and I will do a noon show on local television to promote the upcoming Living the Life Conference here in Corpus Christi. Oh man, have I told you how I hate cameras?
I am hearing Luke 12:22-23 in my head at the moment where Jesus said to his disciples:
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.”
I guess I shouldn’t worry about these little things, after all Jesus said NOT to. However, where are Stacy London and Clinton Kelly when you need them? I wouldn’t give this a second thought if they could show me what TO wear. Yes, it would be totally cool to have somebody dress me and groom me.
We should all have someone like Piper Palin in our life making sure we always look our best. This is too precious.
Do you have any helpful suggestions? Do’s? Don’ts? Are you by chance a Stacy or Clinton wanna-be? I’ll be your guinea pig!
I’d be most amazed if you’d help me out!

Oh my! My daughter said the EXACT thing about that show last week! I gently explained to her…”that would be lying… because she has great style!”
I think solid colors are the best for TV.
Let us know how it goes!
Blessings!

Alene,
Well,my husband is known as the video guy at church…head of the TV ministry. So,here is what he has told me,Teresa is right about solids and reds are bad too.Make sure your makeup has more of matte finish because of the lights,a girl doesn’t want a shiny face:)
But with the fly-away hairs, use hair spray!
Hope that helps,
Tammy

Thanks Tammy. Red is out and I’ve loaded up on matte loose face powder. Appreciate it! Definite on the hairspray, especially here in Corpus. The wind blows about 30mph on an average day. ha

Hi Alene,
Yikes! I am not very good at fashion. I am a speaker also and I asked the most fashionable person I know(a woman in my Sunday School class) to help me select some speaking outfits. We went on a Stein Mart mini spree. She made me try on lots of stuff and we found several mix and match outfits at a reasonable price. If you know someone who always looks ‘put together’…ask them to help accessorize your outfit. It has made such a difference for me. Now I don’t stress about what to wear. I can focus on the more important stuff. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I pray you guys will not meet Ike later in the week. Oh…I do have one tip for the tv appearance…SMILE and Let your light shine! B His Girl

Hi Alene – I don’t know about TV fashion tips but I would think that if you know the main color of the background, you might want to choose colors that will contrast it complimentary.
Piper was sooo cute there but I wouldn’t recomend licking your hand to smooth out your hair. Ha!

So what did you wear? How did the tv segment go? I know that you are supposed to wear solid colors for pics, but I have no idea about tv…
