Wondering what I’m doing, go HERE. First week of mutiny was food, now I’m on to . . .
Summer of 7 and 7 items of clothing! What?
Here I’ve been patting myself on the back for the past couple of years because I’ve forced myself to change the way I dress. I’ve had temper-tantrums over ditching my high heels (please read – this still gets to me) and withdrawl symptons over giving half-of-my-closet away last.
Is that not enough?
Apparently NOT! No #BlameJenHatmaker seems to think we need to strip ourselves down to 7 articles of clothing and try to survive that way. Whoa – this is getting extreme!
So in light of this fun summer experiment against excessiveness – I will strip it down to 7 articles of clothing.
Thankful there are no speaking engagements this week or weddings, but there are meetings and appointments. To bad it’s not a week I could just hang out at the beach! But since I’m putting a suit on my list – I will go – maybe even a few times!
So, let’s see what we can make work here.
For 7 days I will wear in some combination:
-one bathing suit
-one pair of jeans
-one solid blue t-shirt
-one lime green undershirt
-one brown t-shirt from Gruene, TX
-one black Better Saved than Sorry t-shirt
-shoes (aqua tennis shoes)
What I will not wear:
-no jewelry (except my wedding band and my fisherman’s bracelet)
-no accesseries
What I will not count:
-undergarments, bra’s, and girly skivvies because . . . well that’s just my business
-pj’s . . . that’s a little to personal to put here
What will I sacrifice:
-I will go through my dresser and closet and PURGE, giving to others my excess
-I will not wash my 7 articles of clothing this whole week (let’s see if I have any friends left after this one?)
Looking at the week ahead, it all looks so simple. I thought that too about 7 foods, but seriously I could wash my clothes every night and look fresh as new the next day. But what about my friends out on the streets and the children in Africa and the lady seven-miles away from my home and maybe even your neighbor who CAN NOT AFFORD CLOTHES OR TO WASH THEM.
It is for them that I go 7 days on 7 articles of clothing with no washing.
Just to clarify – that is washing of the clothes. I will be washing my body quiet regularly — I’m not that cray-cray!
How’s your closet? You got plenty?
Please think about purging this week and giving to those in need. It might just be your neighbor who could use a hand!

There is no way I could do this. You go girl, but I’ve got to go to work every day and there is no way I could do this. Maybe I could do 17 items. I’ll give it some thought. :)

Yep – that wardrobe is for jobs and all. I do keep my own work schedule, but it is work. I can tell you what won’t happen this week — exercise or anything that will require dirt or goo on my clothes. These garments gotta last 7 days.

Alene! This is hard core girl! Excellent idea on not washing your clothes for the week. (you’ll still have a So7 friend in Washington). Inspired by you!
Positively Alene says
Ah thanks Washington friend. Hopefully you won’t be able to sniff my clothes all the way up there by next Friday! Thanks for your encouragement. Always.

Alene! The no washing thing hadn’t even crossed my mind – why did you have to go and bring that up? Hmmm, I’ll have to consider it when I get to clothes week.
Positively Alene says
I know…when I was thinking of 7 items to choose, I kept thinking of all those friends who don’t even get that choice. And then I thought of the chore that they go through to get their clothes washed or rinsed. And my mind was drawn to those who don’t and their stench reaches far . . . those sweet friends move my heart. No thing I will do this week will come even close to that, I’m not sayin’ I won’t be complainin’! Usually takes me sometime to settle in.

Well, you did choose 4 shirts for 7 days. You’ll only have to wear 3 of them twice. You shouldn’t be too stinky. But I like the thought.

I’m thinking that all this overtime at work is coming at a good time for me!!!!

Now I know what you doing!!! Avoiding me. But I’ll never stink for you. I’ll come up with something good smelling. Surely there will be something . . . I don’t think my Summer Fresh scented Gain will last all week.

love love love it! :) very awesome use of fragrant detergent! :) keep us posted!
Positively Alene says
I should track how many days that detergent stays smelling clean and fresh. This could be a promotion for them if it made it the week. Glad you stopped by.

Wow! I can’t wait to hear how this turns out. So ambitious! I am a compulsive cleaner-outer, so my closet is pretty good at the moment.
Stopping by from SITS! So glad to have met you.

Sharon – I’m finishing Day Two. totally not liking this experimental mutiny on clothes. Not at all – learning I’m a selfish brat.
Thanks for stopping by. I need to learn from you and declutter OFTEN!
Debby Pucci says
I think I might be able to do this one. What an interesting concept! Have an amazing week.
Positively Alene says
Debby – I double dog dare you to try this one. Pick those 7 articles of clothing. I thought NO BIGGIE either, but it’s the end of day two and I’m still having tantrums!!! Heavens sakes – I am a brat!
Lisa says
Yes you are cray cray! I purge every season, but could NOT go down to 7 articles of clothing. Why?
Positively Alene says
Challenge yourself to try, Lisa! It’s really been an eye-opener. I have 5 more days to go. I might just have to go sniffing laundry detergent for a clean smell before this is all over. Blessings friend.

It’s really interesting to read everyone’s posts about Summer of 7. I love the way you put it at the end, it really puts things in perspective.

I wondered about the skivvies – so glad they don’t count. I think I could pick that for home – but for work that’s a more difficult number to meet – however, what a different take on fasting, in a sense – I’m going to turn this over in my mind!
Rina says
Wow! Talk about an antidote to makeover shows and Pinterest wardrobe boards! You are one minimalist, whether or not you choose to do your paltry laundry once a week. Very admirable – we spend a tremendous amount of time organizing things we don’t use and don’t need. Stopping by from SITS.
