I leave for Guatemala with a team of 20 incredible people tomorrow morning. I would love you to come along too. You can help us be a voice.
This trip has been eight short months in the making.
Last February I boarded a plane with 20 others for the Wrecked Guatemala mission trip. I wasn’t sure what the week would entail with all these strangers, but I was excited to serve the Guatemalan people.
God rocked my world in many ways. He told me I was enough. He showed me how pink-glittery nails could bring a little girl into my life. And then God challenged me.
He whispered to the still small core of my soul, “I want you to come back and bring a team with you to be a voice for these children.”
When God calls, you answer.
With my knees knocking, I said “yes” to the call. I remember thinking I was crazy. I don’t speak Spanish. I had no clue how to set up a team. I really didn’t see how God would work this out, but I was just brave enough to answer with a big yes.
Surprisingly to me, answers came quickly. Jeff Goins said contact Adventures in Missions. They quickly agreed to lead us. I posted on my blog the invitation not having a clue what would happen. I was floored when the team filled up within 30 days. God was definitely bringing all the pieces together.
Why go?
Why step away from your routine and into the unknown? God blesses your yes. And when your yes is coupled with a scary step of faith, His spirit falls down on you to reveal more character of God.
Too often we don’t follow God’s lead because we are afraid of the differences. The difference in language, culture, and even people. But there is beauty beyond imagine when you realize that all God’s people are created the same. We each have God’s heart.
That’s what writing the book Graffiti: scribbles from different sides of the street with a homeless friend taught me. We are all the same when we look beyond the superficial.
So for five days we will be serving others looking to find the sameness between us all.
