I sent out my weekly devotional this morning. The message today is dear to my heart. You can find it here. Go ahead and subscribe while you’re checking it out. You know you want to???
The words “for this generation” keep coming to my mind. For over a week, it seems every day I’m reminded about “this generation” either through scripture, song or words spoken.
This is a great generation. A generation that is full of incredible technologies to spread the Word and touch people’s hearts. But this is also a generation that is continually being challenged spiritually with the pressures of today’s society and technology. We are a generation that can be connected to people all over the world in seconds. Yet, we are a very mobile generation that doesn’t have family nearby in most cases.
This generation is not just us; it’s our kids, as well as our grandkids to come. Yes, these are very different times from when my parents grew up or even when I grew up. Realizing this is a different generation leaves me wondering what I am doing to reach them.
Am I speaking their language or am I so far out of this “world” that I’m no longer relatable? Do I look approachable or present the feeling that I’m too busy for another?
I was blown away yesterday as I went to church where my son leads worship. These young worship leaders are kids sold out for reaching their generation. Their music, their dress, their hearts messages all screamed JESUS! Not only has God gifted these students with incredible talents, but also with a heart that longs to bring others closer to Christ.
My heart sang and cried all at the same time. It was so powerful – not only praising God with a young generation, but realizing these kids are leading their generation to the throne of God in their language, their way, their style.
I’m left wondering – what am I doing to reach this generation? Does my hearts message scream JESUS?
I’m amazed at how God longs to reach this generation through you and me for future generations!

Your post touches me, but also gets me going! It just kills me because most people out there don’t realize that it’s the responsibility of ALL of us to teach a Jesus that’s real to everyone, not just those who’ve reached a certain age. I love seeing kids use their gifts to serve God and draw others closer to Him, but do we(I) really take the time to invest in kids to know what their gifts and talents are? Or do we(I) rush to get to big church? It takes a church that’s sold out to mentoring and discipling to spread this passion and I’m so glad Blake found a church like that!

Oh Alene! Your post left me with chill bumps on my arms and tears in my eyes. Thank you for the visual of those young people praising God and leading others their age to do the same!
I have long felt led to work with the youth, particularly middle and high school-aged girls.
God may have opened that door to me last week. You have given me a lot to think and pray about.
Blessings to you my dear friend!
Love, Dawn

Isn’t God good to provide for this generation young men and women sold out for Jesus, encouraging and leading others to Him.
