I knew God was asking me to invite some friends and a few homeless men I knew over.
I prayed diligently before asking the family.
I knew enough to know that while my heart was broken for the homeless and the streets, my family wasn’t right there beside me just yet.
When the ask was made, it was met with an astonishing “yes, we’d love to have them all over!”
The day came. I was excited, but a little apprehensive. While hubby BBQ’ed, I set the house up “just right.” I wanted this to be a special experience for all.
The Thanksgiving decor was perfect, there was enough BBQ to feed an Army, and my heart felt so full. I wanted to share my place with some special friends who didn’t have a place.
Waiting on the friends to arrive that were picking up and driving everyone, it began to rain.
It was pouring buckets!
When I answered the door, my homeless friends were drenched from being in the back seat of the truck where the windows were rolled down. I quickly got them a towel, we found clothes for them to change in to, and I began to dry their soggy jeans.
While the rain could have dampened the day, there was something so right and peaceful growing within my heart.
This was certainly a Thanksgiving to remember.
We prayed.
We ate and ate.
We visited.
We watched football.
We visited.
We ate and ate.
I didn’t want the day to end!
As the night rolled in and everyone began scooting off back to their homes and the streets, I knew I might not be able to make everything perfect for everybody. I might not even be in a place to house someone without a home, but I could entertain them.
It was in that entertaining that I knew I had just hosted some of God’s very special people as His son in disguise.
Yes, in entertaining those less fortunate you are surely hosting Jesus in disguise.
Who can you entertain in some way this holiday season?
