Dear Commercialized Halloween,
I try to get you, but I can’t.
As I see kids running around dressed up in creepy garb, I’m taken back in time. A time to where I was little and Halloween wasn’t something fun; it was something scary that I was made to believe in.
Why do I want to address you Commercialized Halloween?
Because I want to expose the real lies for what they are worth –
sorry, no good, evil, tortuous lies.
However, I’m amazed that as the truth is revealed, I only get slaps-in-the-face by your commercialized parents saying, “it’s just a night for kids to have fun.” I have been there. I know.
It’s more than that. Please open your eyes to the truth.
I know you don’t want to hear this because you’ve made it plain you don’t want to hear the reality of your wacky night. But the real truth is. . .
this night is about honoring satan . . .
and recruiting others in to worship him as well. Dear Commercialized Patron, I know you want to live in your bubble, and you do not want to talk facts.
But you see, the facts aren’t just black and white facts for me — they are the truth. I lived it. This letter is most painful and difficult to write.
Truth — Halloween IS all about evil prevailing through satan.
That’s not just a statement, nor something radical crazy people say. No, Halloween is something I was made to believe in growing up. You see, Halloween in my young life was a HOLY day, and yes that’s why it’s referred to as “all saints day.”
The most important thing you need to know was that we were taught growing up that this was a day where we gave an offering to satan. This was the belief in my coven, where I was raised and tricked into believing satan was the most high, rather than the liar and the thief that we Believers of Christ know him to be.
Seriously, the meaning of Halloween over the centuries has been watered down so much that it’s all about fun and pranks. Thanks to you, Commercialized Halloween, because of you it’s easy now for the dark world to slip in and snatch up others.
But the truth is the truth,
and it’s time to expose the prince of darkness for what he is. He is a liar who covets praise and still prowls around through his worshippers on Halloween night.
Growing up in a satanist family,
Halloween was where we gave our entire self and everything inside of us to satan. In our coven self-indulgence, self-pride, self-riches, and anything else that we could hold on to was what we were taught. This includes what most Christians and Commercialized Halloweener’s refuse to understand, and that is that being a satanist means Halloween is a night that glorifies death and the enemy is worshipped. That’s why you don’t want to hear the truth of this night.
You can ignore it but in satanism,
Halloween has more sacrifices of any kind and more than any other holiday in the calendar months. Halloween is a night that people get the chance to participate in such horrendous activities, both spiritual and criminal, all for the sake of worshipping satan.
On the night of “all saints eve,” spirits are usually unleashed thru rituals we were made to participate in or be subjected to – hideous rituals – extreme evilness.
I remember being a little girl,
and being part of our family/coven and lifting up some kind of challis or goblet thing full of dark liquid in order to toast the hosts of Hell. Oh, I know what the dark liquid was but I can’t bare to remember, to write about it.
I don’t really know if I understood what that meant back then, but I clearly remember being in the “circle of death,” and being told to partake. I chose not to, because I didn’t like the smell inside that “cup thing.”
I was hurt badly for not participating. Actually it wasn’t hurt! It was torture in the sense I was burned with the rod for disobeying the High Priest and coven leader.
Commercialized Halloween, it hurts me that you ignore the truth.
Oh, I’m older now and set FREE by the Victor and Savior JESUS, but the memories and pain won’t leave. Every October, the life I left comes back to haunt in real time with real people. The evil from the past is relentless in pursuing me, but yet you say it doesn’t exist.
I know you don’t understand and so I try not to harbor anger towards you, but in reality you do perpetuate the problem by glamorizing this thing you call trick-or-treating.
Dear Anonymous,
I apologize for far-to-long I was clueless. I heard the “rumors” that this fun day was all about evil and satan’s evil, but I chose to go about my merry business ignoring the staunch facts. I too chose to perpetuate the problem. I’ve since done some digging and the truth is overlooked. Even though this day I’ve never liked, it wasn’t until my daughter was baptized Halloween evening one year that I rejoiced. Thanks for bringing the TRUTH to life. We need more brave souls like you bringing truth to the LIGHT so satan is confined to his dark world. Once lies are exposed — TRUTH PREVAILS!
Dear Reader,
What are you thoughts on this subject? Have you chose to remain clueless as I did for years? Could you stand up to Commercialized Halloween for the sake of the TRUTH? If you’re still not sure if accounts like this are true, do your own research. Do not sit clueless any longer. Please, I beg you!

Whew!! Makes my skin crawl!! thank you for helping open our eyes. I have not celebrated Halloween in many, many years for this exact reason, although I had never heard it put like this from someone with first hand experience.

This letter sure puts a lot in perspective, right?

While evil is real and people do horrible things that are associated with Halloween. I personally know those who’ve been abused through witchcraft and satanic activity. Not to be a non-alarmist….but the vast majority…probably %99.5 of what happens on trick-or-treat night is far removed from any horrors. To be honest, it won’t make a good headline…. It’s almost boring, but the truth is kids want candy.
There is a way to redeem this night. And more importantly is should be actively redeemed through love. If we start stepping away or making sweeping generalization for this time of year no one learns, reaches out, and the night is truly a wasted one.
I was never allowed to go out on Satan’s holiday (my parents words), but last year I learned something amazing that changed how we experience that night in Christ. It has everything to to with hospitality and grace.

Great thoughts to ponder, LIsa! Trying to discern between showing love, which is what we are to do all the time, and participating in an activity that isn’t about love. My mind is a mush today with many thoughts!

Holy smokes! What an amazing post! We’ve chosen not to celebrate Halloween for these same reasons, but I’ve never heard it put like this. I’m more than happy to go and buy candy for my kids just so they don’t feel like they’re missing out. It’s hard for them to understand some times, but I’m glad we’ve made this choice for our family. Thanks for sharing!

I’ve never cared for the day either — didn’t know why, but it just kind of creeped me out. But hearing from Anonymous to the reality of the day to worship satan — my heart is sad. I[ve done some research and the day is all about satan — how in the world did we come to this point?

Alene, I have thoroughly enjoyed your anonymous letters. They’ve been incredibly insightful and challenging. Thank you for giving women a safe place to share, find closure, celebrate healing…etc. etc.
To this anonymous writer, I have long struggled with this day. I am accepting the challenge and doing some more research. I looked into it when my girls were toddlers and decided then that we wouldn’t participate in Halloween festivities. My 17 year old still gives me a hard time about never having had the chance to trick or treat.
However, during the few years that I had spent in rebellion, away from The Lord, we celebrated Hallowen. That first year I was a vampiress…talk about going all out. But, He was merciful and didn’t strike me down. (Thank you Jesus for grace!).
This year my daughters and I will be volunteering in church on Halloween; they have been hosting a safe alternative to Halloween for a few years. No tricks, only treats. No carved pumpkins, only singing puppets. The only horror is in the truth that Christ died for us, yes, they share the gospel with a couple thousand neighborhood kids and their parents every Halloween. If it were a house of horror then we miss the point. we shouldn’t have to try to look or act like the world, right? I’m choosing to keep my eyes wide open. Thank you for reminding me not to waiver!!

Diana – thank you for your comments! These letters are heart-stirring, for sure!
Research it girl. I’ve been doing some digging and I’ve spent most of my life “clueless.” I guess that’s what fires me up. The more we remain clueless and the truth is kept in the dark, the evil one runs amuck. It’s not until the truth is brought to light that satan has to scamper and run — he can’t prevail when the truth and light is brought forth!
Let me know your thoughts once you do some digging. Keep your eyes wide-open, I’m doing the same.
Lisa says
I’ve never been a huge fan of Halloween, but in all honesty, I never really knew that others practiced and celebrated it in a Satanic way. I was the one who let my kids dress up, not creepy, but just dress up and beg for candy. The thing that bothered me mostly, is that we raise our kids to not take candy from a stranger……EXCEPT……for this one time a year. Now I have even more reasons for not liking the day.

Thanks, Lisa! I posted this above to a comment:

I always said, I’d rather buy a bag of candy and give it to my kids than go through Halloween. But we did Halloween usually in modified ways, but I lived clueless.

Thank You for your open heart to share what you feel about this day. Our family has stepped back from Halloween over the past couple of years and decided we could have just as much fun without going door to door… Our church hosts houses around the city and invites neighbors and those trick or treating to stop and eat hamburgers and hot dogs and just fellowship with one another. A way to share Christ with those we live near but never get a chance to just chat with! THANK YOU for sharing it really brought a whole new reality to what we have commercialized as a society!

Our family did not celebrate Halloween either. And my kids never asked to dress up and go trick or treating. One of the things we did that my boys enjoyed was that we would put down on pieces of paper throughout the day the things that we were afraid of. Then that night, we would read them to each other and then throw them in the fireplace. We would talk about fear from a biblical sense and talk about the Lord always being there for us and we would read all His “do not fear” scriptures. We would pray together asking the Lord to take away our fears. Then we would pop popcorn and have a fun movie night together.
I’m so glad you wrote this. A lot of my christian friends did not understand why we didn’t do the Halloween thing, but we had to decide that we would stand up for what we thought was right and not what others thought was ok.
Thank you for sharing from your heart!

I can’t imagine the fear and pain Anonymous must have from her experience. And I will not argue that there are many bad things that happen on this day. however, the majority of households and neighborhoods celebrate to have fun. Lisa’s idea about creating community and learning to show God’s incredible love to others will always make a much greater impact on others than condemning and separating ourselves from people who are hurting.
I respect her choice not to participate in the holiday. I personally find this time to be a great way to interact and meet neighbors that I don’t always get to see.
My Perspective says
As a youth leader in my mid 20s, I was thinking of having a Harvest festival on Halloween night for our youth…to which the pastors said absolutely “NO”. They told me that our church would not be celebrating the devil’s day, but I could have a fall celebration on any other week. My first reaction was that they were old fashioned and reactionary! So, I decided to investigate it for myself at the PUBLIC library – a place that I thought would be more factual than my pastors. HA Every reference book told the gruesome stories of druids & satanistic customs associated with this holiday. I had to apologize to my faithful & trustworthy pastors for showing me truth in the midst of all the commercialization of this wicked holiday. That was many years ago and I still don’t celebrate it. Many churches have moved to hosting harvest fests etc on Halloween night, but I don’t think kids can discern the difference between the ministry plan for the night and the celebration of the evil day. It seems that we could work to win the lost on another day so our kids could clearly understand the difference.
