Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and then go do that.” Harold Thurman Whitman
God is stirring a new thing within me. A holy passion is ringing out and I’m not sure how or when things changed, but somewhere along the journey it did.
Looking back, most of my life I’ve spent intimate time with God praying, “Break my heart FROM what breaks yours.”
Maybe that is somewhat the cry of your prayers too.
God break me FROM —
pride
selfishness
gossip
anger
and our list goes on. You and I long for a heart that is broken FROM and free from sin.
Then out of nowhere the words of my prayer changed, “God, break my heart FOR what breaks yours.” I wasn’t conscience of the prayer change at first, but I can now say it is definitely a scary prayer to pray.
When your heart begins to grasp what God’s heart breaks for . . .
the broken
the homeless
the imprisoned
the orphaned
the widow
the prostitute
. . .your whole being will come to life with tears, passions, and holy anger. Your life awakens with what your heart beats FOR! What God’s heart beats FOR. Tweet this now.
I love the scripture,
For David…served the purpose of God in his own generation.” Acts 13:36
David ran his race FOR his generation.
Can you imagine what you are called to do for your generation? If so, visualize the lives that can be changed through your obedience.
For your generation —
What does your heart beat FOR?
Who are you serving?
How will others be changed?
The day will come when you and I hope to hear the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant!” And I pray we can answer back, “Yes Lord, I served my generation with the purpose that you gave me FOR the people you sent me?”
Fulfill your complete purpose for which God created you to reach this generation. Others are counting on you!
Then words will be said of you, “For __________(your name) served the purpose of God in his/her own generation.”
There’s power in that simple prayer, “Lord, break my heart FOR what breaks yours.”
Pray it. Listen in silence. God is calling you out to reach someone in this generation.
Will your broken heart go FOR them?
Oh, I do hope so. I do hope so!

God bless you for penning this one Alene. I’m slowly wading through this very space, praying the *scary* prayers that will change my life, and He’s moving–
Thankful for you and how you encourage me to seek Christ harder. God bless your day!
Positively Alene says
Praying those “scary” prayers are frightening. May God move us both for his glory! Blessings.

From…For…the different is way bigger than a middle, common ‘m’ isn’t it!
Once again, friend. needed this post. Thank you! And today, I think I’m just brave enough to pray the latter.
Positively Alene says
I’m being brave with you! Hanging on tightly and waiting for the answer. Blessings for you Friday.

I love to come to your blog knowing I will be reminded of God’s heart. And the journey he has you on….it makes me happy to know how wide open your eyes are for him.

hmm.. that is exactly what I prayed.. and the Lord sent me to Dennis and him to me. Break my heart for what breaks the heart of You. My heart broke. Broke for him, told him things I never said to another. I have only recently realized that my heart broke for me too. I am one that God’s heart breaks for.
Broken down but not defeated..
Waiting to see what happens next.
