“When Jesus saw him coming he said, “There’s a real Israelite, not a false bone in his body.” John 1:47 MSG
Just after Christ said to Philip “Come, follow me”, we see Philip running to tell Nathanael. Of course, Nathanael being human couldn’t believe Philip’s statement and wanted to see Jesus for himself. Scripture records that as Nathanael was running up to Jesus, Jesus saw an authentic and real person.
As I read that verse this morning, I wondered just what Jesus would say if I were running up to him. Would he be able to say, “There’s a real Christ-follower — totally authentic and real woman of God?”
I challenge each of us today to put away all pretense and to live our lives as authentic and real Christ-followers and lovers. The world is watching. Half passionate, deceiving, misinformed, and two-faced Christ-followers do not do the Kingdom any good. I see this all the more vividly after teaching for months over on the westside of town. The world wants to trust, but unfortunately they have never seen trust and truth displayed.
Undoubtedly, the world is looking for truth. So today, may we declare to live a life so authentic and real that they can see Christ’s Truth through us.
Dear Lord, give me the courage this day to live my life fully sold out and passionately in love with you. Help me step out of my old comfort zone and live a life being authentic and real. Lord, not so others will say, “look there’s not a false bone about her”, but so that your Truth may be revealed through me. Amen.
