Have you ever said “I’ll do anything?” Did you say it to get the boy, or the good grade, or your way in a business deal? No matter the situation, chances are you’ve said it.
But what if you told God you would do anything — and He took you up on it?
Imagine that the God who could do everything for your anything answered. Visualize it firmly. Would you be scared?
That is what happened to Jennie Allen, the author of Anything: The Prayer that Unlocked My God and My Soul. Jennie says, “Most of my life, I was looking for God to lead me loud and clear. I had listened to sermons and read books about how to know the will of God. Yet with one simple, sincere prayer, he came flooding out of the woodwork as though he had been just waiting for this all my life.”
That is me! My journals are full of scribbled lines that read, “God give me clarity. God make the path clear. God speak louder.” Maybe that is you too.
I was honored to be asked to review Jennie’s new book, but I can’t describe what a God moment this was for me. As I cracked the book, the words flew off the page as if it was a message straight to my heart. I had prayed empty prayers. I was discontent with my journey. I wasn’t sure what God was doing or if He was even working through me any longer. Every day life seemed so mundane. I wanted to shake others and ask “if this Word is real then why are we not recklessly abandoned to it?” When I was just about ready to throw my hands up in full surrender, Anything landed in my mailbox.
Jennie knew my thoughts and writes,
I started craving . . . a reckless faith, a faith where I knew God was real because I needed him, a faith where I lived surrendered, obedient, a faith where I sacrificed something . . . comfort and safety or practicality . . . something.”
My heart pumped fast as my soul related. I have a hunch you can relate too as your journey seems dry and you crave a reckless faith!
We all want a reckless faith, but yet our safe, comfortable, happy lives with incredible worship experiences on Sunday are what fill us. Those are emotions we love. Feelings we crave. We chase those attributes for our lives and we wonder why we come up so empty. Caught in this familiar haze of worldly happiness and empty pursuits, Jennie prayed a courageous prayer of abandonment that took her and her family on the adventure God had written for them.
Their simple prayer, “God we will do anything. Anything!”
Anything is a prayer of surrender that will spark something. Trust me — it will spark the adventure God has waiting for you! My adventure is beginning to light up as a sparkler. Those sparks empower.
This book moves you to stop chasing things that just make you feel happy and inspires you to start living a life that matters. A life that is . . .
surrendered
reckless
courageous
If we truly know a God worth giving anything for, everything changes. Everything!
While this book was provided for my review, I can not recommend it enough. As I look back through the book and see highlight after highlight, my eyes water because I know my life has been changed. My journey is just beginning!
Jennie writes,”To risk is to willingly place your life in the hand of an unseen God and an unknown future, then to watch him come through. He starts to get real when you live like that.”
I want to live like that — recklessly following a real God!
How about you?

‘Recklessly following’ – yes, I see that.
‘A real God’ – no, sorry. There is no such thing.

Your comment intrigues. I’m left wondering . . . if you want to recklessly follow, then who are you following?
Thanks for stopping by!
Blessings for the weekend.
